April Biggest Month Yet for Voluntary Contributions to Arts Council Fund on California Tax Returns
Average contribution almost $12 thus far

Published: 05-13-2011

The Franchise Tax Board has released new figures for Voluntary Contributions for April. Statistics show that contributions to the "Arts Council Fund" were over $61,000 in April with nearly 5,300 donors. Rough stats for the 2010 tax year thus far: $115,000 donated by 11,500 state tax filers, with an average of $12/donor. This is the first year for the California Arts Council to participate and we are enthused to promote this new source of funding.

Background: The Arts Council was included on the 2010 "Voluntary Contribution" portion of the FTB tax return after the passage in 2010 of SB 1076 by Senator Curren Price. The 2010 tax return form from the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) allows California taxpayers to contribute part of their personal income tax refund to the California Arts Council and its arts programs for children and communities. Individuals may make tax-deductible contributions in amounts of $1 or more. Funds will be used to advance the arts and arts education, with no funding going to administrative expenses.
