Shoot some public art. With a camera.

The California Arts Council and ViewBug.com are raising awareness and appreciation of California's abundant public art--and bringing out shutterbugs in communities throughout the state. For our photo contest, photographers must capture art (murals, mosaic, sculptures, paintings, etc.) created specifically for public settings such as parks, plazas, buildings and community-gathering spots.

New ArtWorks! story: Jagged Lines of Imagination Academy

Both the magical and maddening moments of teaching the arts: that's what K-12 teachers encounter after their instruction in visual arts lessons by the teaching artists at Jagged Lines of Imagination Academy. National Christmas Tree show to feature Imagine Bus Project

Our nation's capital lights up with displays at Christmastime. California's contribution will feature ornaments from The Imagine Bus Project, a nonprofit that offers arts programs to low-income, at-risk and incarcerated youth in the San Francisco Bay Area.  SEE PRESS RELEASE

Scholastic Awards now open (writing or art, grades 7-12)

The Scholastic Awards are probably the most prestigious awards in visual art and writing in the U.S. for teens in grades 7-12. The program is now accepting applications, with deadlines in December (the 6th for art, the 13th for writing). SEE WEBSITE

Recent California USArtists grants (international touring)

When the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation announced the third round of the 2012 USArtists grants for international tours, six of the 24 -- or 25% -- were from California.
