Joint Committee on the Arts Hearing - April 18th

The Arts, Creativity, And Innovation in the 21st Century Classroom: How to Paint a Canvas for Success is the topic for a hearing convened by Senator Curren Price, chairman of the Joint Committee on the Arts. Expert representatives are expected to present information on the value of arts education. The hearing is confirmed for Wednesday, April 18, at 1:30pm in Room 3191 of the State Capitol in Sacramento.

Clean Energy Calendar Competition

California's 3rd- through 8th-graders surely have a vision of a green energy state -- how about expressing it artistically? The California Energy Commission has announced its 2013 Energy Calendar competition; all students who submit artwork will receive an Energy Quest certificate of participation and other prizes. The 12 winning creations will be featured in the calendar, and the winning students will receive cash prizes for themselves and their schools.

SAG & AFTRA Get Their Acts Together

The merger of SAG (Screen Actors Guild) and AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) is effective immediately, and brings under a single union banner more than 150,000 actors, announcers, broadcast journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, news editors, program hosts, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, stunt performers, voiceover artists and other media professionals.

Paid Internships for College Students in Los Angeles Area

Summer job opportunities for 74 college students are now available through the L.A. County Arts Internship Program. Descriptions of and contacts for the internship positions are posted on the Arts Commission's Web site. Internship opportunities will close as soon as they are filled during the April 3 to May 16 recruitment period. Students should act fast.
